Course Enrollment

I forgot my Norris Box Office (NBO) password.2024-08-12T13:51:32-05:00

Step 1 – Make sure you are enrolling on the correct website: nbo.universitytickets.com The banner looks like this:

northwestern-banner

If you are in the right place, and you have forgotten your password, or your password does not work, you will need to create a new one. Note that NBO sometimes requires users to reset their password as a security precaution. This is for your protection. Please take the following steps:

Step 2 – This is very important before trying to reset your password — clear your browser history, cache, and cookies. When you open your browser (Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) there will be a “History” drop down menu or options under the application’s main menu.

Here is an example from Chrome:

menu

Click on Clear Browsing Data to proceed.

Then you will see this menu:

clear browsing data

Select only the four options as shown here.

A blue checked box will appear.

Then Click on the Clear data button, lower right.

— NOW YOU ARE READY TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD —

Step 3 – Select Log In as General Public.

log in

Step 4 – Enter your email address and click below on “Forgot Password?” You will receive an email with instructions to reset your password.

Step 5 – Your new password must not be anything like your old password.

For instance, if your old password was CarrotCake22!, the new password cannot have carrot or cake or 22 or !

NBO has found that it may take multiple attempts to reset your password, and if you continue to refresh your screen, the system will eventually accept your new password.

Step 6 – If you do not recall your old password or have mistyped your old password, this process may put you in a “password reset loop.” If you do not succeed in resetting your password such that you are able to log in, please fill out the Cont. Ed Online Help Form

Describe your experience in as much detail as you can and the best time to reach you so that a Norris Box Office manager can contact you to resolve the issue.

Please note that NBO staff does not work after 5 p.m., weekends, or during campus breaks. Thanks for your patience.

Weekly Live Stream and Recording Links

I didn’t receive my link to the recordings.2024-08-12T14:09:05-05:00

All enrolled students automatically receive links to the recordings from Norris Virtual.

Enrollment lists with student emails are updated on a weekly basis, the day before each class (Mondays and Wednesdays). If you enrolled on the first day of class or thereafter, you will not receive that week’s recording (or previous recordings) because the enrollment list has already been generated for that week.

Recordings are available for six days after each lecture. If you have enrolled and are within the current recording window, you are welcome to request the recording from Norris Tech by filling out the Cont. Ed Online Help Form They will verify your enrollment and send you the current recording only.

If you still aren’t receiving the recording, check to see if the emails are in your Junk or Spam Folder. If you don’t see them, it’s likely that they bounced. That means we are sending them, but your email service is flagging them as spam and bouncing them back to us. The emails from Norris Virtual are never even making it to your Junk or Spam folder.

Over the past few years, we have experienced bounces from RCN, Xfinity/Comcast, and sbcglobal (now AT&T). The problem can be intermittent.

There are three ways to correct this problem:

  1. Call your email service provider and ask them to walk you through how to fix the problem.
  1. Try to fix the problem yourself. Google “Does [name of internet provider] block emails?” There may be information on their filters that could get in the way of receiving emails from Norris Virtual.

As an example, here are some instructions from RCN:
https://webmail.rcn.com/support/email/enhanced/creating_filters.htm

Xfinity (formerly Comcast)
https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/spam-filters-and-email-blocking-new-experience

  1. Lastly, it can also be a problem with Outlook. Check the security setting on your particular device. There is plenty of information on the internet with people experiencing blocked emails, but each person’s situation is different and we are unable to individually diagnose problems.

How do I find my link and watch the recording?2024-08-12T14:01:01-05:00

1. Open your email.

2A. Scroll down to find emails by date.

2B. or Filter your email by typing “Alumnae of NU” in the search bar and hit the enter or return key.

(This allows you to only see the recordings that were sent to you each week without having to scroll through hundreds of other emails.)

This is an example of what you should see. There will be a recording for every week of class that has transpired, but only the latest recording will be available to view.

3. Open the email for the date of the course you want to view. This is an example of what you should see:

4. Write down the passcode OR highlight and copy it making sure not to grab a space before or after the code.

5. Click on the long blue underlined link above the passcode. That will take you to a Zoom window that looks like this:

6. Enter the passcode and click on Watch Recording. That will take you to the Zoom recording, which looks like this. Then click the PLAY arrow on the bottom left of the screen.

Note #1: there are usually some announcement slides that rotate before class begins.

Note #2: If you choose to watch in Full Screen mode, you will not be able to see the professor. That is a function of Zoom Webinar we cannot adjust.

My passcode to the recording doesn’t work.2024-08-12T14:01:16-05:00

Copying and pasting passcodes may be convenient, but sometimes add unnecessary spaces before and/or after the exact code. If you receive an error, try typing in the passcode manually.

Passcodes contain a word + a random special character + random numbers. Here are some past examples.

Richter#0109

Papyrus#103

VOWELS#1012

BEAVER#105

Chicago1.9.23

Please remember that your Zoom link and passcode are specific to your email address and may not be shared.

The recording won’t play.2024-08-12T14:01:34-05:00

Zoom recordings work much like an old VHS machine. Some of the control symbols are the same, plus there are some extra controls.

When you type in your passcode, Zoom will present you with the recording that looks like the example below. The PLAY “button” is in the lower left corner of the main window. Hover on the corner until you see the button, then click on it and the recording will begin.

Please note: there is usually a set of announcement slides that rotate before the lecture actually begins. These slides help us communicate with all of our students, whether they are attending class on campus, watching the live stream, or viewing the recording.

The lecturer will appear to the right in a small window. Underneath the small window is a running audio transcript. If this viewing format doesn’t suit you, you may click on the “button” in the lower right corner of the large window to make the lecture full screen. However, you may only see the lecture slides and the image of the lecturer may disappear. Or, the lecturer may appear “picture-in-picture.”

It depends on your device. If you don’t like this view, click on the lower right corner to revert to the original viewing format. These are the only two viewing options Zoom Webinar provides for recordings.

When I watch the live stream, why can’t I see the professor/ why is the professor so small?2024-08-12T14:02:03-05:00

Zoom Webinar has limited viewing options for recordings. The options depend on the device you are using (computer or iPad or casting from a phone to your television).

The biggest decision you must make is whether to watch in Full Screen mode.

The default mode looks like this:

Note: iPads have controls at the top of the screen.

When I watch the live stream, why can’t I see the professor: why is the professor so small - Picture1

In Full Screen mode, some devices only allow you to see the lecture slides.  Some devices make the professor very small like a “Picture in Picture.”

Please scroll down to see an example.

How do I enable closed captioning?2024-08-12T14:02:16-05:00

You may enable or disable closed captioning (subtitles) in both the live stream and recordings of our courses.

  1. Once the lecture or recording starts, there is a CC icon at the bottom – or top – of your window. Its location depends on the device you are using (computer or iPad). Take some time to discover all the viewing options on your particular device.
  1. Click on the CC icon to find the menu of viewing options. Familiarize yourself with the two CC options by clicking on each one. Note: please ignore the Audio Transcript option. It is always on in Zoom Webinar.

How do I get my courses to automatically populate my calendar app?2024-08-12T14:02:41-05:00

When you receive your payment confirmation email from audienceview.com, you will see an option to import your course(s) to various calendar apps. Do not use this option. The NBO platform is programmed with the beginning date/time and the ending date/time. That means the entire period would be added to your calendar.

HOWEVER, it is possible for each of your lectures to populate your calendar through the Zoom platform if you have registered for the live stream using the link in your payment confirmation email.

————————————————————————-

1. After you register on Zoom, you will receive a confirmation email from Norris Virtual noreply@zoom.us Open the email and scroll to the bottom. There is an Add to Calendar option. Click on the appropriate calendar application.
